Education Emphasis — Teaching

Introduction to Teaching — 1 credit

Music instruction should be more than just bring in a CD. This class is for those selecting an education emphasis with the goal of teaching lessons at a private studio. It will cover the basics of learning styles, lesson plans, history and philosophies of music education, advertising and promotion, the development of materials and the completion of projects related to the above categories.

Teaching Pedagogy — 2 credit\s

This class will revolve around the study of available literature and teaching methods appropriate for private studio teaching. Materials for teaching contemporary styles such as jazz, rock, blues and folk music will be explored as well as materials used for improvisation, note reading and theory. Appropriate projects will be completed.
