Improvisation

Improvisation and Advanced Ear Training — 1 credit

A study of the tools necessary to spontaneously create music in a variety of music styles including blues, rock, jazz, fusion, bluegrass, folk and country. The material stressed includes a familiarity with melodic patterns such as scales, modes, arpeggios, rhythmic and melodic phrasing in a variety of styles as it may be employed on players principle instruments. Also students learn to improvise accompaniment rhythm patterns as it applies to chord progressions in a given style.
[Prerequisites: Completion of Music Theory II, Applied Instruction II, Reading Development II on Applied Instrument, and Ensemble II, or Consent of Instructor]
