The World of Music — 3 credits

This music history class covers music from a global perspective. It includes music of the Americas, India, Japan, and Africa, as well as Native American and Ethnic music in the United States. Also covered are music styles such as popular, folk, jazz, religious and Western European classical music.

History of American Popular Music — 3 credits

American Popular Music is one of the largest exports for the U.S.A. This music was born from the integration of many cultural and ethnic influences. This course presents an overview and study of the historical background, music, people, and events that help form American Popular Music. This introduction to Popular Music in America covers the period from approximately 1840 to today.
